PLETHYSMOGRAPHY AND TELEMETRY MONITORING SYSTEM

SCOPE: The Comparative Biosciences Department of the School of Veterinary Medicine is requesting bids for a Plethysmography & Telemetry Monitoring System, which will be used as follows:
    • In some experimental paradigms, rats will be examined daily for controlled environmental gas exposures. A sophisticated control system will be used to expose rats to different patterns of high and low oxygen, or controlled carbon dioxide levels.  These exposures are a cornerstone of the research program and must be performed under highly controlled circumstances.  At this time we are looking for software and equipment to upgrade from an existing plethysmograph system and purchase additional specialized equipment to measure rat response during exposures as described. 
    • Additionally, the rats will be implanted with a monitoring device and record sleep/wake state, breathing muscles, and possibly ventilatory measures (in conjunction with either the proposed or an existing plethysmograph) while the rat is in its natural housing environment.  Listed in this document, to our best ability, are the equipment needed to perform these telemetry experiments.
    • Initially two plethysmography experiments will be performed at a time, with the potential of 4 to 8 experiments at a time. 
    • Initially two rats will be implanted for telemetry and possibly 4 to 8 in the future.
