POLICY:
Based on the initiative of a campus-wide committee, trucks exceeding
30 feet in length are restricted from making deliveries and pick-ups
on campus. There are several reasons for this policy change with
the major concerns being to reduce traffic congestion and ensure
the safety of students, faculty, staff and the public.
The initial year will be considered a pilot to gather more information
and make adjustments to this policy if necessary. The exceptions
are trucks necessary for the delivery or pick up of perishable commodities,
private construction vehicles, vehicles carrying radioactive materials,
and campus service vehicles. For specific policy language, a campus
map and restrictions, see the University
Transportation Services Web-site.
PROCEDURES:
Based on information received and considered, possible methods
for campus delivery and pick up are as follows:
- Vendor delivers or picks up using vehicles which are less than
30 feet.
- Vendor ships or picks up via common carrier in vehicles which
are less than 30 feet (e.g. FedEX, UPS, Speedy, etc.).
- Vendors who are unable to deliver or pick up per one of the above methods, must arrange to deliver or pick up with UW-Madison Materials Distribution Service (MDS) located at 2102 Wright Street in Madison, WI. MDS will receive, inspect for visible damage, cross-dock and deliver to campus buildings along with other daily deliveries. During the pilot phase of this policy, there will be no cost to campus departments for this service. For any additional services (e.g. palletizing, shrink wrapping, etc.) beyond the cost of delivery there will be a nominal fee. For specific policy language and restrictions, see the Purchasing Policy & Procedures PPP 32.
