POLICY:
I. UW-Madison Purchasing Services offers employees the opportunity
to stagger their work shift on an alternative work schedule with
the approval of their supervisor. Any alternative work schedule
which is developed with bargaining unit members will be consistent
with provisions of the master contract and applicable local agreements,
which shall prevail.
POLICY DEFINITIONS:
Alternative work schedule: Fixed schedule which deviates from standard
hours.
Work unit: Functional area within the department structure. (see
below).

PROCEDURES:
I. Purchasing and MDS/SWAP management will develop coverage schedules
for each work unit.
II. Purchasing and MDS/SWAP management will determine the hours
of coverage required which at a minimum will cover the business
hours of the University of 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday,
except during the 11:45 to 12:30 standard lunch period. Standard
lunch period coverage is required in the Peterson Reception, MDS
Customer Service and SWAP.
For Purchasing operation, a minimum of three agents, one manager,
one administrative staff and one receptionist will be scheduled
to cover the business hours as stated above.
III. Requests for alternative work schedules will be considered
by Managers in relation to work needs. In the event alternative
work schedules are not cooperatively agreed to, any consideration
will be done on a seniority basis.
IV. Lunch periods may not be scheduled for less than 30 minutes.
V. Alternative work schedules will be reviewed periodically and
adjusted as necessary.
VI. Management reserves the right to reschedule to meet work needs.
