SPECIFICATIONS

BITUMINOUS CONCRETE MIXTURES:

Aggregates Material: All materials provided for aggregates and bituminous material intended for use in binder and surface course mixtures shall conform with the requirements of Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT), designated in Sections 401 and 405 for the particular material specified, and for Gradation as shown on the Itemized Bid List, except as hereinafter otherwise or additionally stipulated.

Asphalt Cement:The bituminous material to be used in the preparation of the binder and surface course mixtures shall be Asphalt, Type AC, shall conform to the requirements of DOT Subsection 401.3.2.2.3. Performance graded asphalt cements shall meet the binder specifications and test methods of tolerances as tabulated in the most recent edition of DOT’s “Certification Method of Acceptance for Asphalt Cements”.

Tack Oil:Must be oil base only.

PREPARATION OF BITUMINOUS MIXTURES:

The equipment used in the preparation of the bituminous mixtures shall comply with the requirements of DOT Subsection 405.4.

The paving mixtures shall be composed of a homogenous mixture of course aggregates, fine aggregates, mineral filler (when required) and bituminous material.

The asphalt content of the bituminous mixtures shall be between 5% and 8% of the total weight. The produced mixture shall conform to the requirements of DOT Subsections 405.3, 407.2.1.1-4, 407.3, 407.5.1 and 407.5.1.5 except that the contractor will not be required to submit to the owner samples of aggregated and bituminous material he proposes to use.
