PRINT MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE

SCOPE: Contract for the purchase of printing management software.

Division of Information Technology (DoIT) led a campus-wide Team considering options relating to the management of printing on campus.  This project covers only pay-for-print systems; it does not intend to provide a campus identity system or incorporate other services. Additionally, this system does not necessarily encompass printing in staff offices.

1.  CURRENT ENVIRONMENT:

The University of Wisconsin-Madison is a public research university with a total enrollment of over 41,000. In addition, the campus employs over 16,625 faculty and staff.

Most public locations on campus use the system to handle payment for copy and printing services. Current hardware supported includes:

  • 112 copiers
  • 90 laser printers
  • In total, these systems provide over 8,000,000 pages printed per year.

1.1   General Library System:
The General Library System (GLS) provides 30 networked public printers attached to print stations. These printers utilize the same central server but are installed on many different networks across campus.  

1.2  Computer Student Computer Labs:
The campus student computer lab program provides approximately 50 black and white printers, 6 color printers and 1 poster printer. 

1.3   Other Departmental Implementations:
There are numerous departmental labs on campus, ranging in size from a few computers to hundreds.
