SCOPE: This contract is designed to provide a manufacturer/distributor to customers who will be able to furnish Bulk Gaseous Helium on an on-call basis.  This contract is limited to only those customers who are eligible under federal guidelines in place.  For the UW-Madison, the eligible customer are the Liquid Helium Facility, Department of Engineering and the Synchroton Radiation Center (SRC).

Purchased only in emergency situations when the University’s liquid helium producing facility is inoperable.

 

Must be supplied in stainless steel dewars with roller bases. Dewars have to be supplied with Buna N, “O” rings for sealing the transfer line to the dewar coupling. Teflon is not acceptable.

 

Each Dewar must indicate a tare weight. Each Dewar must include a packing slip with serial number assigned to Dewar.

 

Dewar rental charge (if any) will start when product is delivered, and stop when request is placed to pick up.

*SCHEDULED DELIVERY: Any order placed before 12:00 p.m. local time will be delivered within 3 days at no additional charge. If same-day or next-day service is required, shipping charges in Part E will apply.

*NEXT-DAY AND SAME-DAY DELIVERIES: will be charged at the listed rates for up to 6 x 500 liter dewars or 10 x 250 liter dewars (mixed shipments can be requested). Individual order quantities exceeding either of these scenarios will be charged an additional fee of $50/dewar for quantities in excess of the listed limits. This fee includes both a production fee and a distribution charge. Under certain situations where a next-day or same-day delivery can be made via a BOC truck on its normal route, no additional distribution charges will apply (just the $50/dewar production fee will apply).

SPECIFICATIONS
1. GENERAL REQUIREMENTS and INFORMATION for DELIVERY:
  a. A Bump Sheet, and a Purity Sheet must be provided with each delivery.
  b. Contractor must supply a connector to mate from their tube trailer to our helium transfer hose.
  c. The tube trailer must be in place before 7:00 a.m.
  d. Method used to accomplish offloading helium is by cascading and is performed by experienced UW personnel. The procedure takes approximately 3 hours.

In Lot II -- rental of tubes must meet the following specifications:

Rental tubes shall be used for recovered helium from lab experiments and dewar boil-off but they will also be filled with pure helium during each delivery.

The tubes shall be stationary tubes (a tube trailer is not acceptable) to be provided by Contractor.

The tubes must have an internal volume of at least 70,000 cu. ft. of helium at an operating pressure of 2200 p.s.i.g. @ 70 degrees Fahrenheit.

The tubes must have a working pressure of at least 2800 p.s.i.g. to allow for a future increase in operating pressure.

Cost of installing the tubes will be Contractor’s responsibility.

Tubes must meet A.S.M.E. code.

Lot III:

  • The University may ask contractor to replace the existing UW Owned tube cylinders with contractor owned tubes. The replacement tubes must hold sufficient volume to comfortably support the liquifier program and process under normal filling schedules. The replacement tubes will be placed at contractors cost, will remain under the contractors ownership and will be rented to the UW.
  • The University shall provide the concrete pad and internal piping for the placement of the contractor’s tubes.
  • If the option of contractor owned tubes is used, the tubes can only have visible standard ownership identifiers and can not become “billboards” or an additional advertising medium. Labeling of tubes will be approved by University.
  • The contractor shall maintain the vessels and system in a condition acceptable to the University. Contractor will work with the University to do routine system checks to insure safety and quality of system operation. If for any reason, this contract is cancelled, contractor will be responsible to remove the tubes at contractor’s cost.

Lot IV:

RENTAL TUBES:

a. Filled with pure helium during each delivery.

b. The tubes shall be stationary tubes (a tube trailer is not acceptable) to be provided by Contractor.

c. Contractor must indicate the external physical size and the internal water volume of the tubes.

d. The tubes must have an internal volume of at least 70,000 cu. ft. of helium at an operating pressure of 2200 p.s.i.g. @ 70 degrees Fahrenheit. The Contractor must indicate the volume of helium gas in their tubes. The pressure and temperature must be indicated.

e. The tubes must have a working pressure of at least 2800 p.s.i.g. to allow for a future increase in operating pressure.

f. Cost of installing the tubes will be Contractor’s responsibility.

g. Tubes must meet A.S.M.E. code.
