AGGREGATION AND PACKET FILTERING SWITCH FOR CAMPUS NETWORK BORDER

SCOPE: Contract for the purchase of a packet filtering provided by the system which will to allow us to write rules to copy packets meeting our criteria to multiple 10Ginterfaces, allow for overlapping policies, provide a load balancing mechanism as well as allow us to drop certain packets that we do not want to process with our intrusion detection servers.

It is expected that the aggregation switch will need to fully process at least 40G of traffic after the bypass of a separate 50G of packets that are not of interest.   This traffic must be provided to multiple 10G interfaces without packet loss for sensing by our intrusion detection system.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR AGGREGATION AND PACKET FILTERING SWITCH 

The system must accept input from two 100G interfaces with Single Mode LR4 fiber.

 

The system must accept input from four 10G interfaces with Single Mode fiber (SFP+).

 

The system must provide an interface for us to supply packet filtering rules by IPv4 address/network, IPv6 address/network, TCP/UDP protocol, etc.

 

The system must allow the copying of the traffic to at least 24 10G interfaces (SFP+).

 

The system must provide a packet filtering system to allow for overlapping rule policies, e.g. implement rule policy A (send ipv6 packets to 2 10G interfaces) and rule policy B (send ipv6 packets with   TCP 80 to 1 10G interface) at the same time.

 

The system must provide the ability to copy packets to multiple 10G interfaces based on our rules, e.g. sending packets with a source or destination network 144.92.0.0/16   and TCP port 80 to three 10G interfaces. 

 

The system must provide the ability to drop at least 50G of packets based on our rules, e.g. drop packets between two known IP addresses that contain low risk high bandwidth traffic.

 

The system must provide the ability to load balance at least 40G of traffic over selected 10G interfaces.

 

The system must provide mechanism to allow for the future expansion for new input and output interfaces, e.g. additional 100G input interfaces, additional 10G output interfaces, etc.

 

The system must provide memory buffering to stop packet loss from going to 100G input interfaces to multiple 10G interfaces while processing at least 40G of traffic.

 

The system must provide alerts or statistics on any packets dropped due to system resource limitations and not our filtering rules, i.e. our rules that purposely drop uninteresting traffic.

 

Contractor must provide next business day support as the minimum response time.

 

Maintenance pricing must include all version upgrades, updates and fixes to the software.

 

Contractor must provide a minimum of 60 day warranty period.  The first year of maintenance will begin once the warranty  period is complete.  The University will be performing an acceptance process during this warranty period.
