Instrumentation System Requirements
  • Vendor must provide support, repair and maintenance of the system, software and accessories as specified in specification.
  • Used or demonstrator equipment must be less than 5 years and had been used in a laboratory setting. Vendor must be able to provide a record of all preventive maintenance, repairs and upgrades that have been done to the system. The laboratory user will determine the acceptability of the system.
  • During the contract period any alternative or replacement system offered if used or a demonstrator must meet the #2 requirements.

SPECIFICATIONS FOR LIQUID GROWTH MEDIA AND INSTRUMENTATION SYSTEM(S)

A. GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS

1. System must be able to isolate mycobacteria from clinical and environmental specimens.

2. System must be capable of isolation from the following specimens: tissues, blood, other body fluids; water, soil, silage, feces, semen, and plants.

3. System must use liquid culture medium which must be able to be inoculated without the use of a needle and syringe.

4. System must use a non-radioactive growth indicator.

5. System must have accession bar coding capabilities.

6. System must be compatible with use of the NALC-NaOH, HPC and other specimen decontamination procedures.

7. System must maximize use of lab space (high tube number/instrumentation foot print.

8. The system must be FDA cleared for antibiotic susceptibility testing of Mycobacterium avium complex isolates against isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol, clarithromycin, streptomycin and other standard anti-mycobacterial agents.

9. The system must be a combined incubator/reader, with no manual intervention required for the reading of the media vials and detection of growth.

10. Tube mouth width must accommodate filtration concentration sample processing technique.

B. TRAINING/DOCUMENTATION

1. Vendor must provide on-site training in the operation and maintenance of system.

2. Must provide at least one (1) copy of the equipment and operational manual.
