SPECIFICATIONS

A. Shibboleth IdP Project

UW-Madison’s Department of Information Technology (DoIT) is seeking to enhance the Shibboleth IdP. The enhancement will configure the login flow process to consider the user attributes before sending the user to the Service Provider with a valid SAML Assertion altering normal IdP operation.
The deliverables of the Shibboleth IdP project are:

  • Modify the Shibboleth IdP source code to enhance the features to do the following
  • Provision before first access
  • End user notification
  • Role-based access control
  • Document these modifications
  • Train internal users on the use of the modifications.
B. UW Portal Ongoing Enhancements

The UW Portal also integrates with the Shibboleth IdP and it is expected that the Shibboleth IdP project will have impacts on the portal and will require ongoing maintenance and related upgrades. The portal uses the uPortal framework and may require additional enhancements to fully utilize Shibboleth and improve the end user experience. This may include enhancing the portals ability to integrate with Shibboleth, adding additional portal functionality or modifying the portal UI. Any resulting contract vendor may be given an opportunity to provide ongoing work to the UW portal that is related to the above Shibolleth Enhancement Project.

Some possible deliverables of the UW Portal project are:

  • Modify the uPortal framework as necessary for greater IdP integration
  • Create additional JSR 168 portlets as needed
  • Modify the uPortal UI as needed
