MDS Attains PCI Compliance

MDS has undergone software and procedural enhancements that make us completely PCI Compliant. The Payment Card Industry (PCI) Standards Council, composed of members from all the major credit card brands, established a set of merchant standards which the University of Wisconsin - Madison has adopted.

PCI compliance means that MDS/SWAP operates in a way that provides the ultimate level of security and protects the confidential information on your credit card. Six goals set by the industry include:

• Building and maintaining a secure network
• Protecting the cardholder data
• Maintaining anti-virus software on all of our applications
• Implementing strong access control measures
• Regularly monitoring and testing networks
• Establishing a security policy

All of our staff have become PCI certified by completing training sessions dedicated to compliance. With the changes we have made to our network, new MDS users may experience a change in the customer account setup process. For those customer types who are permitted to use credit cards for payments, you will be asked to provide basic
account information such as your name, address, etc.

Once the account is set up, MDS customer service will notify you by e-mail. Upon your first shopping session with our e-commerce site, you will be redirected to a secure Internet site which will display the MDS logo. This site will request you to enter your credit card information. Once that has been completed, you will be redirected back to the MDS e-commerce site to finish your purchasing.

Vendor News: EMD Millipore Antibodies

As of April 01, 2012, EMD Millipore antibodies will not be available through the Fisher store at MDS. Effective immediately, orders can be placed at www.millipore.com/antibodies. New customers will need to register on the website before placing an order. Antibodies will be shipped for next day delivery with all shipping, handling, and dry ice charges waived. The antibodies are on UW Madison's contract number 10-5540. Contract information can be found at go.wisc.edu/3557o1. EMD Millipore cell culture, sample prep, protein purification and detection products will continue to be available through MDS's Fisher store.

100,000 Miles and Rolling

• In 2011 MDS scanned and delivered 184,807 prime vendor packages. These packages were from Fisher Scientific, Grainger, Staples, VWR, UPS, and FedEx.
• In addition to the scanned packages, MDS also delivers our core stock, 30-foot truck items, gas cylinders, SWAP purchases, and rental customers' items stored at our warehouse.
• Each workday starting at 5:30 a.m. trucks begin arriving at our warehouse in Verona. The skids from these trucks are sorted to pallets for delivery to our customers. Our prime vendor boxes are scanned to a pallet location and then scanned to the delivery location when the pallet or package is dropped off.
• In addition to deliveries our staff picks up empty pallets, empty cylinders, returns, used toner cartridges, UPS shipments, freight shipments, SWAP donations and rental customers' items to be stored at our warehouse.
• We have a fleet of seven large trucks and two vans. Each truck is assigned a route and makes a couple of runs per day. MDS has customers throughout the state. However, our vehicles are used only for deliveries in the Madison area, with common carriers such as UPS making deliveries to outlying areas. In 2011 our trucks traveled more than 108,000 miles making deliveries and pickups.
