Commuter Benefits Program
About the Program
- Supplements the existing UW Madison pre-tax parking and vanpool programs.
- An employee may participate in the Commuter Benefit
Program (a qualified transportation program
under Internal Revenue Code (IRC) § 132) and in the UW Madison pre-tax program provided they did not
exceed the monthly maximum pre-tax contribution amounts.
- Monthly Limit
for Parking
- $220 for 2008
- Monthly Limit for Transit
- $115 a month for Transit (which includes Vanpool) for 2008
- Monthly Limit
for Parking
- Offers a pre-tax deduction for commuting expenses that
currently cannot be deducted on a pre-tax basis such as:
- Carpool
- Flex-parking
- City parking meters
- City parking ramps
- Private parking arrangements
- Park and ride costs lots
- Private bus costs, e.g. Badger, Wisconsin Coach Lines.
