Deferment of Loan Payment


Not all loans are alike. Some student loans are eligible for deferment of repayment. You must check each of your promissory notes to determine whether you might be eligible.

Deferments are not automatic. You must apply for a deferment each semester or year that you are eligible. Payments of principal and interest are normally suspended during the deferment period.

A student deferment is the only type of deferment that can be processed prior to the expiration of your initial grace period For all other types of deferments, your initial grace period must have expired before your account can be deferred. Wait until you receive your first billing statement before you apply for non-student deferments.

If you feel that you are eligible for a deferment, complete the form on the back of your billing statement. If the form is acceptable, your account will be updated accordingly. If it is not acceptable, we will notify you of the reason.
