Deferment of Loan Payment

Not all loans are alike. Some student loans are eligible for deferment of repayment. Please check each of your promissory notes for deferment eligibility.

Deferments are not automatic. You must apply for a deferment each semester or year that you are eligible. Payments of principal and interest are normally suspended during the deferment period.

A student deferment is the only type of deferment that can be processed prior to the expiration of your initial grace period For all other types of deferments, your initial grace period must have expired before your account can be deferred. Wait until you receive your first billing statement before you apply for non-student deferments.

For a description of available deferments, please see the Federal Student Aid Handbook

If you feel that you are eligible for a deferment, forms can be found a the website https://borrower.ecsi.net under 'Students' and 'Download Forms.' Upon receiving a form, it will be reviewed and you will be contacted accordingly.
