Disbursement of Federal Family Educational Loan Program loans
80% of FFELP loans are processed through Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation (GLHEC).
- Most Wisconsin banks use GLHEC to process their FFELP loans.
- Access to the GLHEC web page enables borrowers to independently view their FFELP loan status.
FFELP loans processed through GLHEC
- Are received electronically and disbursed directly onto student's Tuition Account.
FFELP loans not processed through GLHEC
- Are received as a physical check payable to the student.
-
The Bursar's Office contacts students - generally by email - to come to
333 East Campus Mall #10501,
and endorse the check.
- The check is then applied to the student's Tuition Account.
- If there are no charges to pay, or the amount of aid is greater than the amount of charges, the excess is refunded to the student.
- Refund checks are mailed to student's active 'mailing' address.
- If there is no active mailing address, the system will use an active 'home' address.
- If neither address exists, a refund cannot be processed until the student updates addresses on the http://my.wisc.edu website.
