Background
As we move to the WISDM reporting system, we also need to move to new data views that draw from the new database. This document provides information that users need to know in gaining access and using the new views. These views are different from the legacy views in that they do not reside on the Infoaccess server and DoIT End User Computing will not be supporting them. Therefore, users need to go through a different authorization process. We realize that this could cause some confusion during the transition and so we hope that the information in this document will help make things easier. Additional information is also available at the SFS Project Web Site under the Data View link. Following is the URL: http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/acct/sfs/data.html .
The new views that are available at this time include:
The PRIOR_YEAR_FUND view that is currently on InfoAccess will be moved to WISDM data views, because of the implementation of payroll interface and direct payments in SFS. The new view will draw data from SFS. Other Legacy views that will continue to exist for now include the following – these will be replaced in the future when transaction processing is moved off of the legacy accounting system:
Views that will be eliminated include:
Any ODBC compliant tool can be used to access the new data views. The following software tools will be supported by DoIT on both Windows and MacIntosh PCs: Hyperion, MS Access, MS Query. Questions about these software tools can be directed to the DoIT Help Desk.
For Hyperion Intelligence Client, web based version of Hyperion, a connection will need to be made to the database and the user's TNSNAMES.ORA file will need to be updated. Users should contact their department or division technical staff for help. Instructions can be found under the Data View link on the SFS Project Web Site - http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/acct/sfs/data.html .
If you are interested in using Hyperion Intelligence Client and are not yet setup, please see the following URL to register, download the software, and get more information: http://kb.wisc.edu/helpdesk/page.php?id=5853.
A new user completes an authorization form and route s it through appropriate department and division staff for approval. contact their WISDM authorization contact. The campus WISDM authorization person (in Accounting Services) will set up the authorization for the appropriate data views and will notify the user when it's completed. Users will use their existing WISDM logon and password to access the new views. The authorization form can be found at the SFS Project Web Site under the Data View link. Following is the URL: http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/acct/sfs/data.html .
Documentation of each new data view can be found on the SFS Project Web Site under the Data View section. Following is the URL: http://www.bussvc.wisc.edu/acct/sfs/data.html .
Functional Problems - If the user finds a problem with the data, they should contact Hua Ramer at 262-4858 or hramer@bussvc.wisc.edu. She will investigate the problem and will contact a Financial Applications developer as needed.
Technical Problems - In general, a query should run in under five minutes. If a query runs longer, the user should contact the DoIT help desk. Any questions in using the supported software tools (Brio, MS Access and MS Query) should also be directed to the help desk.
